Share passwords securely between devices using encrypted QR codes. Generate a QR code on one device and scan it with another for quick, secure password transfer.
Enter the password you want to share
Choose your encryption options
Click "Generate QR Code"
The QR code contains both the encrypted password and unlock key
On the receiving device, go to the "Scan QR Code" section
Allow camera access when prompted
Scan the QR code displayed on the other device
The password is automatically decrypted and displayed
All encryption happens locally on your device. The QR code contains the encrypted password data, ensuring that even if someone takes a photo of your QR code, they cannot access the password without knowing how to decrypt it.
Perfect for transferring passwords between your own devices without using the cloud or other online services. The entire process happens offline between the two devices.
Since QR codes are visual and scanned directly, you don't need an internet connection or even Bluetooth to transfer passwords. This works in any environment, even in secure facilities where network access is restricted.
QR code sharing is much faster than typing out complex passwords or even using copy/paste between devices. Simply generate, scan, and you're done in seconds.
When setting up a new phone, tablet, or computer, use QR codes to quickly transfer your important passwords from your old device to the new one without having to type them manually.
Securely share important household passwords (like Wi-Fi, streaming services, or utility accounts) with family members by generating a QR code on your device and having them scan it.
In a secure office environment, share access credentials with team members without sending them through email or messaging apps that might be monitored or compromised.
Before traveling, generate QR codes for your essential passwords and print them as a physical backup. Store them securely in your luggage as an emergency access method if your devices are lost or stolen.
The passwords in the QR codes are encrypted using AES-256 encryption, the same standard used by governments and financial institutions. Even if someone takes a picture of your QR code, they cannot extract the password without knowing how to decrypt it.
Yes, you can save the generated QR code as an image file for later use. However, we recommend treating this image with the same security precautions as you would the password itself, as it contains the encrypted password data.
No, the QR codes do not expire. They will work as long as both devices have Password.app installed. However, for security reasons, you can optionally set the QR code to be valid for only a limited time or number of scans.
Password.app's QR code scanner is designed to work with our specific encryption format. While it may not directly import QR codes from other password managers, you can use our import tools to bring in passwords from other services.
